What Is ELD And ELD Mandate?
TXT ELD
The Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) automates the Records of Commercial Driving – Hours of
Service (HOS) – to make sure Drivers adhere to the Legal Limits. And it aims
to Reduce Unsafe or Fatigued Driving. The ELDs can make the Collection and Reporting of
Driver Hours easier, quicker without mistake.
The Provision for ELDs included with MAP-21 (Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century
Act), which was designed by the FMCSA to Modernize Transport Systems and signed into law on
July 6, 2012.
The ELD Rules were published in the United States in December 2015 by the Federal Motor
Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and expected
Compliance by Drivers using Paper-Logbooks by December 18, 2017. Post the Mandate the
Drivers started using Automatic Onboard Recording Devices (AOBRDs) for the purpose. However,
the second phase of the term will take effect on December 17, 2019. By this time, Data must
be Recorded directly from the Vehicle's Engine and Automatically Transmitted to the
Department of Transportation (DOT).
It means that all Devices must be ELDs, and AOBRDs will no longer Stay Compliant to the
Mandate. The ELD Mandate specified that Commercial Drivers needed to use one of the
Self-Certified Logging Devices listed on the FMCSA website to Record Driving Hours. The
Vehicles equipped with TXT ELD will be Compliant across all Phases of the ELD Mandate.
